Description
Castle Leslie is located on a beautiful country 1,000 acre estate 7 miles north-east of Monaghan town in County Monaghan. The castle is situated about 80 minutes drive from Dublin and about 60 minutes drive from Belfast.

The castle is built in Scottish Baronial style. It is built on the site of an earlier castle, but has never been used for defensive purposes. The house has a grand imposing appearance from the front. The rear of the house has a cloister in Renaissance style linking the main house to a one storey wing which has the Library and the Billiard Room. The interior has an Italian Renaissance feel. The Estate has three lakes, Glaslough (Green Lake), Kilvey Lake and Dream Lake. The estate is 1,000 acres with parks, forest and streams and several forests.

Facilities
Castle Leslie is a beautiful country retreat, and a magnificent setting for an Irish wedding or special event. There are a variety of rooms catering for couples, family gatherings, to major events catering for up to 220 people. The settings available include the Lodge's Victorian room, the Old Stable Mews, the Castle Pavilion by the Lake, and other private dining options. The Castle offers a number of accommodation options for guests, who can stay in the main house, the Hunting Lodge, the restored Old Stable Mews, or in holiday cottages in the village. Facilities on the estate include a private cinema, spa, bar and restaurant, Cookery School, a pavilion, facilities for weddings and conferences.

Activities for guests at Castle Leslie include horse riding, walking and pike fishing on the lake. On the estate is an Equestrian Centre, miles of horse trails, over 300 horse jumps, indoor horse arena. Walkers can enjoy exploring the woods and around the lakes of the 1,000 acre estate on the numerous clearly signposted trails. A map of the estate is available at the Hunting lodge.

Restoration work on the walled garden is in progress.

History
Castle Leslie, home to a branch of Clan Leslie in Ireland was designed in 1870 for Sir John Leslie. The house is still home to the Leslie family.

The Arts
In 2002, Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills were married in the church on the estate, followed by a banquet for 300 guests. Many celebrities have visited the house including the Irish poet W.B. Yeats, Mick Jagger, astronomer Patrick Moore. The castle has featured in reality TV shows including Failte Towers (RTE) and The X Factor (ITV1).
