Description
Ballinbreich Castle is located between Newburgh and Balmerino in Fife and overlooks the Firth of Tay. The castle is a three-storey L-plan structure with a rectangular courtyard enclosed by a curtain wall. The castle was built in the 14th century and extended in the 15th and 16th centuries. The remains of a chapel can be seen on the second floor. Ballinbreich is on private ground and not open to the public without prior arrangement.

History
Ballinbreich Castle dates from the 14th century. It was originally a small keep three to four storeys high, on the south wall of a rectangular courtyard. It was owned by the Earls of Rothes. The castle was modified in the 16th century. Stone has been removed for other buildings over the years.
